Luke: On Christmas night in Bamako, we went to see some excellent live drumming. There were also dancers, whose silhouettes you can see toward the end of the clip.

Luke: This man has a foam mattress strapped to the back of his motorbike. You can see stacks of mattresses for sale across the street.

Luke: There were dozens of studios and shops of local artisans at the Maison des Artisans.

Dave: The Maison des Artisans was like a clearinghouse for tourist things. I bought sandals which broke the following summer. What can I say? They were 7 bucks for the pair.

Luke: Daniel befriended Katy, a waitress from Ivory Coast.

Dave: Daniel's always good for personal grooming advice. Here he tells Luke to cut the fingernail across in a straight line.

Luke: Hmm. I wish he'd also advised me to use a nail clipper, rather than that ball point pen.
